Bridges

Sino-European Project Coordination & Creative Mediation

Bridges begin with understanding.

From exhibitions and publications to academic programs and creative collaborations,
these projects connect people across languages, cultures and industries.
Acting as a mediator between Chinese and European contexts,
I help translate not only language, but also values, expectations and ways of working
—allowing ideas to travel, collaborations to grow and new perspectives to emerge.

DutChinese is a Sino-Dutch cultural exchange project comprised of five Dutch designers and five Chinese master craftsmen residing in Nanjing, the ancient capital of China. Working in pairs, they learn from each other, experiment with new techniques, and collaboratively create DutChinese products that blend modern design with traditional craftsmanship.

As the project initiating team, we drafted the project plan, contacted cultural and creative institutions in both China and the Netherlands, and successfully secured funding from the Dutch Creative Industry Funds. This enabled us to recruit participating designers and artisans. We spent nearly a year living together in Nanjing to progress and promote the project.

Participated designers and craftsmen: Frederike Top, Merel Karhof, Jetske Visser, Castor Bours, Wouter Widdershoven. Yeliang Gu, Jun Guo, Shuxian Zhao, Yao Chen, Junhui Guo.
